Craft Haul – Bergere De France Yarn Haul

In the last haul I posted, I forgot to order some light pink yarn for the fox plush I plan to crochet, so I made sure to add some into the cart for this order. This is actually the fourth order from Bergere De France I’ve made. The first was all the yarn for my younger brother’s custom jacket – I ordered it quite a while ago but am only just now starting to get to the project.

The second order I wrote a post on and you can check that out by clicking here. I purchased yarn for the fox plush I mentioned above and all the yarn for the four decrease pattern shawls I plan to make. In the third yarn order from Bergere De France, which you can check the post out by clicking here, I purchased yarn to make a jumper for my boyfriend as well as some other yarns for projects to spoil myself for all my hard work.

After knitting the swatches for the jumper, my boyfriend and I decided we didn’t like the original yarn I had chosen and he quite liked the Vitamine colour of the Ideal Yarn, which I had two balls of to make a hat. As this had now become the yarn of choice I had to then order enough of the Vitamine Ideal Yarn to replace the Sonora Melon yarn, which was the original yarn chosen.

I went through all my Bergere De France patterns and I found a pattern that uses the Sonora yarn and it also required some Angel yarn, so I decided to add some Angel yarn to the order. I also really wanted to try knitting a hi-low hem sweater using the Goomy 50 yarn, which is the greenish coloured yarn pictured in the photo. And lastly, I can’t remember why or what my plan was but I have a light coloured grey/tan yarn… just one. :/

Craft Haul – Bergere De France Yarn Haul

This is the third order I’ve made with Bergere De France. I had received reward points worth 10 pounds in an email and because I’ve been pulling in so many hours I felt the need to spoil myself a little so I bought a whole heap of yarn! Bergere De France also had a promotion, at the time of ordering, where they were including a pair of knitting needles in the order as a gift if you spend… I think it was 50 pounds in the one order. Which if you want Australian Dollars you may as well double that, so when I say spoil myself I do mean spoil. Haha! ^-^

Yarn Name: Barisienne | Recommended Needle Size: 4mm | Yarn Colour: Methylene x 6

Yarn Name: Sonora | Recommended Needle Size: 4mm | Yarn Colour: Melon x 8

Yarn Name: Ideal | Recommended Needle Size: 4mm | Yarn Colour: Pavot x 1, Vitamine x 2, Olivine x 2, Pinede x 2, Alpin x 1 & Everest x 1

Yarn Name: Abakan | Recommended Needle Size: 6mm | Yarn Colour: Noir x 2

Yarn Name: Sport | Recommended Needle Size: 4.5mm | Yarn Colour: Kraft x 1

With the Abakan and Sport yarns I plan to make the Hedgehog Amigurumi from the Bergere De France pattern which is in the Creations 15/16 Patterns Book. It’s super cute!

The Ideal yarns I plan to use to knit some hats. I want to make a light green, a dark bluey green, an orange hat and then a striped hat using the red, white and navy and try and do something groovy and nautical. Or maybe do a design to match my Converse All-Stars, I’d be very hip then.

The Barisienne & Sonora yarns I plan to use knit a Fair Isle jumper or sweater for my boyfriend to take to Japan on his snowboarding trip with his friends. I chose the blue and the orange as those are the colours he prefers in his video games as the armour for his characters, so I thought it be cool to do the jumper in those colours. He really likes bright and vibrant colours.

Craft Haul – Bergere De France Yarn Haul

I spoiled myself because I’ve been working so hard and I’m really into knitting right now. You can knit or crochet almost anywhere! I love it as I can be productive while relaxing or being lazy. I love being able to multi-task. Chatting with friends? I’m knitting. Watching TV? I’m knitting. Answering phones at work? I’m knitting. It’s great!

I really like the yarn offered by Bergere De France. They have a US website: http://www.bergeredefrance.com And they have a site that ships elsewhere (such as Australia!): http://www.bergeredefrance.co.uk

In a post a few days ago (this one) I mentioned that I want to knit a custom sized jacket for my younger brother. (If I start now I might have it done by next winter!) And I stumbled upon the Craftsy Course “Getting Gauge Perfect Knit Fabric Every Time” which has a decrease shawl pattern. In the course the instructor, Sarah Peasley, shows examples of four shawls all using the same pattern but knit with different yarn which created the different ‘fabric’ so there were four different sized shawls. I found this really interesting and I wanted to give it a try myself, so when I was ordering my yarn I bought a chunky yarn, a DK yarn, a 3 ply yarn that is slightly thinner and then a really fine yarn.

Chunky  – Yarn Name: Alaska | Recommended Needle Size: 6mm | Yarn Colour: Perdrix

DK – Yarn Name: Jaspee | Recommended Needle Size: 4mm | Yarn Colour: Lavandin

3Ply – Yarn Name: Goomy 50 | Recommended Needle Size: 2.5mm | Yarn Colour: Imprim

Thin – Yarn Name: Angel | Recommended Needle Size: 3.5mm | Yarn Colour: Saule

As well as that I ordered three DK yarns with the plan to crochet a fox plush or amigurumi. For those that don’t know amigurumi is Japanese. Ami means knit and gurumi is the word for stuffed toy. I purchased the Barisienne DK yarn that has a recommended needle and crochet hook size of 4mm. I purchased the Igloo, Reglisse and Vitrain colours. Though it was pointed out after I received the order that I probably should have ordered a light/soft pink as well to be the inner part of the fox ear. So I’ll have to make another yarn order at some point. (I’m not even mad haha).

Well that’s all for now!

1.Basic Grey Kioshi – Soft Purple Pastel Kit

2. Schoolboy Scrapbook Kit

3. Glitz Design Wild & Free Drips – Rainbow Watermark Kit

In this kit, I’ve got a range of blues with a touch of green for the teal feel, pinks and reds and a pop of yellow against some striking blacks.

I starting putting this kit together because I had the Bella BLVD Snapshots Tabs- the stickers pictured on the left-hand side. I started choosing papers to match the stickers. I didn’t have any true teal colours like the sticker, so I paired some blues that looked like they swung the green way with an actually bright solid green paper. The pink papers were easier to come by. I’ve also been trying to pair some plain papers with some strongly patterned papers to try and create a balance.

I added 4 x washi tape in different patterns but all in the hot pink colour, the Sei Poppy Sticker Alphabet Stickers. I couldn’t find any stickers in the black like I wanted to, but this brown is quite dark and I thought it still coordinated well with the papers.

Finally, I added some more left over die cuts from an Amy Tan die cut set and a die cut set I can’t remember the brand…

Christmas 2014 – Christmas Card Making –Stripes & Snow Flakes

This Christmas card is probably my favourite of the season and was the most enjoyable to make. I was so proud of it. I made it for a friend that has become very dear and who I share many similar interests with, such as card-making and jigsaw puzzling.

In the Lawn Fawn Snow Days 6×6 Paper Pack there is a pattern paper that has pattern stripes made up from the individual pattern papers. When I first saw it, I didn’t think I would actually use that paper for anything because it’s so busy but I found I liked the four stripes seen pictured and so I cut them from the other stripes to use as a border piece on the card.

card_2_1

I then found a coordinating pattern paper (also from the Snow Day paper pack) and I liked how it was the same jade green as the snow flake pattern stripe and has smaller snow dots on it. I think it makes it flow nicely.

card_2_2

So going with the snow flake theme of the card I die cut three snow flakes from white card stock using the Simon Says Stamp Kate Snow Flake Craft Die which is very affordable at only $6.99USD (I love cheap things). And it’s so cute! I think it’s very versatile. I guess I’m lucky living in Australia as Christmas time is actually summer, so I’ll be able to cheat and use these dies again for actual ‘winter wishes’ cards in June and July.

card_2_3
I only put foam squares on one of the snow flakes. I placed the other two (the top and the bottom one) directly onto the pattern paper. I tried to arrange them in a way that was pleasing to the eye. The striped pattern paper on the left side is also raised with foam squares so I was able to tuck the bottom snow flake partially under the paper.

card_2_4

I was really happy with the look of this and as it had such a pretty delicate look with the snow flakes on the right-hand side I didn’t want to cover it up with a sentiment too much. I wanted the sentiment to be mostly on the stripes.

card_2_5

With stripes and snow flakes being the continuing theme, I made a tag out of striped pattern paper from the Snow Day paper pack with the same coordinating colours. After punching holes at each corner using the Big Bite 2, I used the Lawn Fawn Peppermint cord to thread through the holes creating the tag handle.

card_2_6

I adhered it to the card askew and placed one of the arms of the raised snowflake over the top of the tag.

card_2_7

I love the ‘Ho ho Ho’ sentiment stamp from Penny Black’s Whoooo’s Wishing Stamp Set and I thought the delicate italic/cursive ‘ho’ would tie in nicely with the delicate snow flakes. I used the Memento Dew Drop inks ‘Lady Bug’, ‘Cottage Ivy’ and ‘Teal Zeal’ on white card stock to stamp the sentiment. I overlaid the ‘Teal Zeal’ and ‘Cottage Ivy’ to try and get a colour closer to the jade green of the pattern papers. Then I adhered that on top of the tag.

card_2_8

I was really happy with the final result and my friend was really pleased when I presented it to her. I enjoy the crafting get-togethers with my friend a lot and I hope to have another real soon in the new year.
